NO! This is not what you think it will be!  It IS true that Sodom has become infamous for its sexual immoralities -- even acts like "Sodomy" being named for it. But when the Lord summarizes Sodom's problems, He makes a list that might surprise us -- even IGNORING those promiscuities. 

 

For any who might wish to read the Biblical account of Sodom's experiences and its destruction, please consult Genesis 18:20 through Chapter 19.  

 

But we would like here to add that, even though the Lord singled it out for destruction way back in the Bible's first book, Jesus assures us that Sodom WILL, indeed, be awakened with the remainder of mankind for an opportunity of "restitution" (Acts 3:19-21; 24:15).  Sodom is not lost!  And Jesus further states that the inhabitants of Sodom will find it "more tolerable" for themselves than for other groups of humanity whose sins against enlightenment will find it much harder to complete the resurrection process of the Millennial Age Kingdom of God -- the mediation offered by Jesus to bring all of humanity back to God.  (I Corinthians  15:21-28)  Jesus words are, "It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city." (See Matthew 10:15; 11:23, 24; Luke 10:12-16.)

 

 

THE REAL AND SOBERING CONDEMNATIONS

 

We often are altogether too ready to condemn others because it makes us feel superior.  But when we read God's own indictment of Sodom, we might see that our current society is no better -- actually worse!  When Scripture (Daniel 12:1; Matthew 24:21; Revelation 16:18) tells us of the Lord's soon-to-come destruction of our current social-economic-religious-political order in "A TIME OF TROUBLE SUCH AS HAS NEVER BEEN," we should take note that the Lord is, in His great displeasure, ready to rid the earth of its nasty problems so that He can institute the peace and blessings of the Kingdom for which so many have so long ignorantly prayed.  (Matthew 6:10; Psalm 46:10)

 

 

The Lord's true indictment of Sodom is found in Ezekiel 16:49:

 

Behold, THIS was the guilt of...Sodom.  She and her daughters 

had ARROGANCE, ABUNDANT FOOD and CARELESS EASE

(i.e., selfishly not caring for others in favor of self); But she did NOT HELP

THE POOR AND NEEDY. 

 

It is clear that these sins of selfishness and sins of omission are far more serious than the ignorant sins of promiscuity.  They are much like the seemingly "subtle" sins of the goats in the parable of "The Sheep and the Goats" in Matthew 25.

 

We are mentioning this because it will be important for the world to know WHY the Lord is permitting the coming collapse of man's entire societal structure.  We should not be the least surprised that the world is falling apart all around us.  And WE have no power to fix it.

 

When Jesus quoted from Isaiah 61:1, 2 in Luke 4:18, 19, he omitted the phrase about "the DAY OF VENGEANCE OF OUR GOD" because, at his time in history, the time had not come for it.  But in OUR day, it IS the time for the fulfillment of "the day of vengeance."  And it is important to stress that the vengeance is not against people, but against the evils that they are perpetuating.  God WILL save humanity -- ALL of it -- giving them the opportunity for reform to the point of perfection.  But He will NOT save any of the corruption inherent in them or in their society.  Their society will be -- and even now is -- being wiped off the face of the earth.
