Do You Think It's Possible?
As the world shakes under the very real threats to its peace and well-being, we might well consider as to how possible it might be that the Lord has actively put his finger into earth's affairs to a greater degree than we might have considered.
Most of us rarely equate troubles with the Lord's doings. But, indeed, Scripture DOES plainly tell us that He would SHAKE the earth. That promise is mentioned in Hebrews 12:26, 27, which is a quote from the Old Testament prophecy found in Haggai 2:6.
Sometimes our expectations regarding the Second Advent of Jesus are more the product of Dark-Age theology than of Scriptural facts. But the concept is secure (with a few "loose-end" texts to be explained when anyone wants) that Jesus' Second Advent is a PERIOD of time (not just a short event) -- actually 1000 years as shown in Revelation 20 and II Peter 3 -- and that it is for a good while SECRET -- or, as the Apostle Paul explained, "like a thief in the night." (I Thessalonians 5:2) And any number of Scriptures indicate that his secret presence would be discerned ONLY by his faithful disciples, and not by the world in general. However, what the world DOES discern is that "something is wrong!" And, it will all end up with the termination of man's social-political-economic-religious systems during what the Scriptures call "a time of trouble such as has never been." (Daniel 12:1; Matthew 24:21; and Revelation
16:18.)
Much of the problem for our understanding comes from our false expectations of WHY Jesus returns. The general Dark-Ages concept is that he will whisk away his followers to heaven, condemn everyone else, and then burn up the earth. Pardon the bluntness, but that viewpoint is shear nonsense! (Ecclesiastes 1:4; Isaiah 66:1 with 60:13; Matthew
6:10) And while some Biblical symbolisms lead to people's weird interpretations, the Scriptures give a far different and BETTER scenario when understood and compared to all the texts on the subject.
The whole point of the Second Advent is "THE RESTITUTION OF ALL THINGS WHICH GOD HAS SPOKEN BY THE MOUTHS OF ALL HIS HOLY PROPHETS SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN." (Acts 3:20, 21) But, of course, Eden's perfections cannot be restored unless mankind's corruptions are first removed -- hence the, "I will shake the heavens and the earth." (Hebrews 12:26, 27)
This should not be too much of a surprise for Christians who have for 2000 years prayed, "Thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven." (And, by the way, does THAT sound like burning up the earth?!)
We are living as the shaking has begun. Its result will be the dissolution of man's corrupt society as we have known it. THAT is painful and even frightening. (Luke 21:26) But Jesus' purpose is to bless -- not to cause pain and heartache. Nevertheless, without his removing of the offensive things from our world, he cannot supplant them with that long-prayed-for kingdom. Knowing what is going on can only help us to have less fear and more hopeful anticipation for the culmination of the shaking period.
But the title of this month's article is to bring to our attention that we are, indeed, living in the long-awaited time of Jesus' second presence -- the time when the prophet Haggai (2:7, KJV) says that "The desire of all nations shall come."
It can only sound weird -- even "crazy" -- to claim that Jesus' Second Advent has arrived! But that is exactly the testimony of the accumulated Scriptures on the subject. Some may quickly quote Matthew 24:36 and say NOBODY KNOWS when Jesus' return is.
But look carefully at the text. It is NOT ABOUT his arrival! It is about the time that "heaven and earth shall pass away." (See verse 35.) THAT happens sometime AFTER Jesus arrives as a thief in the night. Heaven and Earth in that text are symbolisms for rulerships and societies -- the very things that are now being shaken. Once those two
parts of man's life-structure have passed away from the shaking, THEN the peaceable kingdom will begin. We are SO CLOSE!
Consider the testimony which is only hinted at in Hebrews 12:26 and 27. The context of Haggai chapter 2 tells us so much more detail! Here are a few highlight-excerpts quoted from Haggai 2:6-22 (KJV):

6. For this saith the LORD of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will
shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7. And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come;
9. And in this place will I give peace.
21. I will shake the heavens and the earth;
22. And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength
of the kingdoms of the heathen...everyone by the sword of his brother.
The Apostle in Hebrews did not tell us the whole story; but, assuredly, he expected us to go to the Haggai source of his quote to learn the details -- among which is the promise that the shaking will result in the "desire of all nations" and in the LORD's giving "peace."

Clearly, the shaking is something to be desired
So, do you think it is possible that the Second Advent (the secret "like-a-thief" presence) of Jesus CAN HAVE BEGUN? This is probably too big a question to ask of any of us without far more information from Scriptural testimonies! But some of us have actually come to that conclusion. And it is the best of signs that "peace on earth, good will toward men" is at the door. Who couldn't get excited about THAT prospect!
